These assignments will be the first for Amol Muzumdar in his role as India’s new head coach. India were without a designated head coach since Ramesh Powar was moved out of the role in December last year, and had Hrishikesh Kanitkar overseeing things at this year’s World Cup and Asian Games in an interim role. India have some new faces to pick from potentially, as Shreyanka Patil and Saika Ishaque have been ...

R Ashwin on how Pat Cummins’ brilliance and Australia’s understanding of Ahmedabad conditions left him in awe

Image
When  Pat Cummins  won the toss and opted to bowl first against India in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, there was some surprise in the cricketing fraternity. While there was expectation of dew to play its part in the second innings it still was a brave call against the host in front of thousands of fans who were all rooting for Rohit Sharma’s men. And Australia has often relied on the mantra of ‘bat first and put runs on the board in a big game.’ However, the decision paid off big time for the Aussies as they won their sixth World Cup beating India by six wickets. Indian off-spinner Ashwin Ravichandran on his YouTube video revealed his conversation with the  Australian  chief selector George Bailey during the innings break. “I chatted with George Bailey during the mid-innings and asked him why didn’t you guys bat first like you always do.” “He replied, ‘We have played  IPL  for many years, tou...

Virat Kohli’s Sachin Tendulkar-like gritty knock gave India hope before it was snatched away

Image
Virat Kohli  stood there dazed, frozen, disbelieving what his ears and eyes told him. The LED stump lights were flashing after he had inside-edged Pat Cummins onto his stumps. A roaring Australian captain had long run past him. For some reason, Kohli had a despairing look towards square-leg before he reluctantly began to drag himself away from the crime scene. On a very sluggish pitch where every batsman is bound to struggle, he had played a peach of a knock, but couldn’t convert it to a substantial contribution. Later in the innings, a reverse-swinging away-shaper from Mitchell Starc would consume  KL Rahul , and the Indian innings began to meander. The hosts huffed and puffed to an inadequate 240, being bowled out for the first, and only, time in the World Cup. That the Indians managed just four boundaries after the first Powerplay indicated how much control the Australians exuded. The over a lakh Indian fans, who had for over a month got used to India’s overwhelming ...

ODI World Cup 2023: India vs New Zealand Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match?

Image
India  (IND)  and  New Zealand (NZ)  cross swords once again in the semi-finals of the  ODI World Cup 2023  after four years. The two teams will be in action on Wednesday, November 15 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. India  has been in surreal form, having won all the nine matches they have played in the tournament. The team is functioning like a well-oiled machine. One of the most noteworthy points of their campaign has been how they have found new heroes in every other game and not relied on some specific players to take them home. New Zealand had an excellent first half of the tournament as they won four matches in a row. They were looking invincible at one point before they suffered a four-wicket loss to India. The Blackcaps lost their next three games as well and were staring down the barrel. However, a resounding win against Sri Lanka in their last league game helped them make their way into the semi-finals, finishing in the four...
