Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo wins a penalty then asks referee to overturn the decision

 


On Monday, during the AFC Champions League match between Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr and Iran’s Persepolis, Cristiano Ronaldo waved off his penalty against Persepolis, telling the referee himself he didn’t believe it was a foul.


In the second minute of the match, Ronaldo won a penalty for Al-Nassr when former Liverpool star Sadio Mane whipped a cross in search of Ronaldo, but he immediately walked up to the referee and signaled it wasn’t a penalty. It is not something you see every day in football. Replays showed that there had been no contact on Ronaldo and credit to the Portuguese superstar he was quickly on his feet and wagging his finger to tell the referee to correct his decision.

Ronaldo has been hailed for his sportsmanship for owning up to the wrong call. The match between Al-Nassr and Persepolis ended in a goalless draw.

Despite dropping points against Persepolis, Al-Nassr remain top of their group after winning four of their five games so far and have already qualified for the knockouts. They also currently sit second in the Saudi Pro League, just four points behind league leaders Al-Hilal.
