Max Verstappen names his one dream F1 teammate – and it’s not a current driver…

Image
Max Verstappen   opted against naming a legend like Aryton Senna or Michael Schumacher when asked to name his one dream   F1   teammate. He steered clear of current or ex-Red Bull drivers like Sergio Perez or Daniel Ricciardo and certainly didn’t name rivals like Lewis Hamilton or George Russell. “For me, personally? Dream team? If I could bring people back to their normal racing [age], it would be my dad,” Verstappen told Sky. “For me, personally, that’s my dream team.” “His career didn’t go to plan. It had a lot of potential. He knew what went wrong.” Jos Verstappen drove in eight  F1  seasons, across three spells, representing Benetton, Simtek, Footwork, Tyrrell, Stewart, Arrows, and Minardi. In his debut year in 1994, he drove alongside Schumacher for Benetton. Jos Verstappen has since become a big presence in the paddock as the driving force behind his son’s rise. “He knew it was very important to have the right people around you, from a young age, to guide...

Pakistan make four changes and bat as they eye series sweep

Image
Pakistan   won the toss and, as has been the theme of this series, elected to bat first against Afghanistan as the teams moved to Colombo for the third and final   ODI . Since they had already sealed the series 2-0 and with their first Asia Cup fixture just four days away,  Pakistan  decided to rest some of the key members of the playing XI, making four changes to the side that won the second ODI. Usama Mir, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Iftikhar Ahmed were all left out. In came Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, and Mohammad Wasim. Babar Azam  said the pitch looked a little bit dry, and the first ten overs would be crucial. He also said that was expecting a high-scoring affair. Afghanistan  also made two changes, bringing in Gulbadin Naib and Fareed Ahmad in place of Ikram Alikhil and Abdul Rahman. Naib had been drafted into the squad for the third ODI earlier in the day in place of Azmatullah Omarzai, who has a side strain. Having bossed t...

Mohamed Salah not for sale, says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Image
Mohamed Salah  is not for sale and Liverpool has not received any offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday. British media reported on Thursday that  Al-Ittihad  was making a renewed push to sign the Egypt international, but Klopp said there would be no deal. “It’s always difficult to talk about media stories because there’s nothing to talk about from our point of view,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Liverpool’s game with Saudi-owned Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday. “We don’t have an offer,  Mo Salah  is a Liverpool player. Obviously for all the things we do, essential, was, will be. There’s nothing there, if there would be something the answer would be no.” The German also said that 31-year-old Salah, who signed a three-year extension to his contract last year, is 100% committed to Liverpool. Liverpool  went down to 10 men in their 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday with the sending-off of Alexis Ma...

Liverpool sign Japan midfielder Wataru Endo from Stuttgart

Image
Liverpool  have signed Japanese midfielder  Wataru Endo  from VfB Stuttgart on a long-term contract, the Premier League club said on Friday. Financial details were not disclosed but British media reported  Liverpool  offered around 16 million pounds ($20.33 million) to sign the 30-year-old who has 50 caps for Japan. “I’m very happy right now and I’m so excited to join a big club in Liverpool,” Endo said in a statement. “It feels amazing and this is my dream. It’s always (been) a dream to play (in the) Premier League with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a dream come true for me. “I play as a number six and I’m like a bit more (of a)defensive player. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organization in the middle. I think that’s my job.” Endo is Liverpool’s third close-season signing after Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as the club looks to sign replacements after seeing their midfield gutted due to departure...

England reach first World Cup final despite Sam Kerr stunner

Image
England  reached their first Women’s  World Cup  final after a 3-1 victory over Australia on Wednesday despite a wonder goal from Matildas striker Sam Kerr as the co-hosts’ fairytale run came to an end. Attacking midfielder Ella Toone had given England a first-half lead but a stunning strike from captain Kerr, making her first start of the tournament, squared things up after halftime as Stadium Australia erupted in euphoria. However, Lauren Hemp restores England’s lead before Alessia Russo put the result beyond doubt shortly before the end. England, who fell at the semi-final stage in the previous two World Cups, face Spain on Sunday looking to add a world title to last year’s European Championship triumph. Sarina Wiegman’s side had a game plan to impose themselves physically on Australia, committing nine fouls in the first half as they nullified their opponents’ attacking options. England  opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Russo worked her way to the...

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Spain March Into Maiden Final After Olga Carmona Winner Downs Sweden 2-1

Image
Olga Carmona ’s stunning late strike gave Spain a 2-1 win over Sweden on Tuesday to propel them into the  Women’s World Cup  final for the first time in their history. Spain’s thrilling victory at Eden Park sets up a showdown in Sydney on Sunday with either Australia or England, who meet in the other semi-final on Wednesday. The semi-final in Auckland seemed to be drifting towards extra time before suddenly bursting to life when substitute Salma Paralluelo put Spain ahead with nine minutes left. Rebecka Blomqvist equalized for Sweden in the 88th minute only for full-back Carmona, Spain’s captain, to score with a superb shot off the underside of the crossbar from the edge of the box. It has been a remarkable run for a nation who had never previously gone beyond the last 16 at a Women’s World Cup, and for a team who had been in disarray in the months leading up to the tournament. Fifteen Spanish players told their federation last September that they no longer wished to be...

Moises Caicedo transfer: Chelsea agree British record fee for Brighton midfielder

Image
Chelsea  have agreed a deal with  Brighton  worth a British record £115m for midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Blues are understood to be paying an initial £100m, plus £15m in performance-related add-ons. Caicedo arrived at the Chelsea training ground for his medical on Monday morning.  The midfielder will sign an eight-year contract, with the option of a further year. Brighton  will have a sell-on clause that has been described as “significant” as part of the £115m deal to sell Caicedo. The Blues will pay £100m upfront for the midfielder, with £15m in add-ons. Half of the add-ons have been described as “quite easily achievable”, while the other half are considered “much harder” to achieve. Liverpool agreed a £111m deal to sign Caicedo earlier this week but the move fell through when the 21-year-old informed the club he intended to join Chelsea. Caicedo had been expected to travel to Liverpool for a medical on Friday after Jurgen Klopp’s side had a bid ...
